WesBell DLO (Diesel Locomotive) cable contains tinned copper strands and is dual insulated with EP / CPE insulation. The double layer of insulation adds protection for severe outdoor conditions for mining and earthmoving equipment installations. DLO cable is also used in shipyards and as motor leads in addition to its primary use in diesel-electric locomotives. It’s rated for 2,000 volts and 90C.
The 4/0 DLO cable diameter is 0.87 inches, and it weighs 845 pounds per 1,000 feet. This DLO cable is on the smaller end of the DLO size spectrum, but it offers excellent quality for your electrical applications.

What Is a DLO Cable?
When DLO cables first entered the scene, they were exclusive to diesel-electric locomotives, hence the name. Over time, we’ve adapted these cables to various other diesel applications. These cables are defined by their construction.
Every DLO cable features double insulation with tinned copper strands. This construction offers extreme durability and flexibility, making these cables versatile for multiple uses. The tinned copper makes adherence easy for lug application.
DLO cables are always rated at 2,000 volts, and they cover multiple sizes to fit your needs. You can browse our selection of DLO cables to find other sizes for your application.
Consider These Factors Before Choosing a Cable
When you buy a cable for electrical applications, you want to pay close attention to operational constraints. Electricity is powerful when used correctly, and proper usage starts with understanding certain specifications. Before you buy your cable, make sure you know your:
- Current: Staying within ampacity constraints keeps your equipment safe. If you buy the 4/0 DLO cable, make sure your installation needs no more than 405 amps.
- Voltage: This figure describes how much force is needed to maintain the electric current. Aligning with voltage requirements will keep your equipment efficient.
- Conditions: Knowing and accounting for the operating environment of your equipment is just as important as adhering to electrical constraints. Your cable needs to handle the conditions of its working space, like moisture or heat, without suffering damage.
