Super Welding Cable

Run-of-the-mill equipment requires strong cabling to safely support high levels of electricity. But in heavy-duty applications, you may need another setup. General Cable has a solution with the Super Vu-Tron® line of welding cable. This super welding cable offers greater flexibility and strength for even the most demanding tasks.

At WesBell Electronics, we offer flexible copper welding cable, which is sometimes used as battery cables. Welding cable can be used as battery cable, but it’s a much better, more flexible cable made with a rubber jacket instead of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). We carry super welding cable in a wide range of sizes and can help you determine the best cable for your application. Let’s take a closer look at this powerful cable and its typical uses.

What Is Super Welding Cable?

Super welding cable is essentially a stronger version of regular welding cable, both of which feature copper strandings and function as a portable power cable. The copper strandings deliver exceptional flexibility, even at large sizes. Welding cable is commonly used for power supply applications and secondary voltage resistance welding leads.

The biggest difference between super welding cable and standard welding cable lies in the jacket. Super welding cable features a Super Vu-Tron® jacket, a smooth rubber material that adds a wide range of protective characteristics, including:

  • Flexibility.
  • Durability and abrasion resistance.
  • Better cold-temperature performance than plastic cables.
  • Resistance to sunlight, oil, acids, alkalies, chemicals, flame and moisture.
  • Vibrant colors.

Super welding cable operates with power supply requirements of up to 600 volts and in environments from -50 degrees Celsius to 90 degrees Celsius.

With such exceptional performance, you can find super welding cable in a range of heavy-duty locations. It’s common in many intense industrial applications, such as manufacturing and heavy equipment. These cables can stand up to crushing from machinery, twisting from operator use and even freezing temperatures. Sizes greater than 1/0 American Wire Gauge (AWG) can be used as permanent wiring in conduit or trays.

Our welding cables are made with 30 AWG copper wire strands for added flexibility and are available in a bright orange color. Common AWG sizes are 6, 4, 2, 1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0. Super welding cables include several approvals from organizations such as Underwriters Laboratories, the CSA Group and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)

How Super Welding Cable Compares

If you’re looking for a different type of power cable, similar options include:

  • Locomotive cable: Diesel locomotive (DLO) cable can support higher demands of up to 2,000 volts with a rugged design perfect for outdoor applications.
  • Entertainment cable: Stage lighting cable works well for the entertainment industry and connects various lights and equipment. It uses Super Vu-Tron® insulation and offers additional approvals relevant to the environment.
  • Electrical cable: Multiconductor electrical cables aren’t as rugged as super welding cable but are used for a wide range of applications.

If you happen to be looking for smaller AWG wires try our electrical wire, hook up wire, or Romex®.
